Characters

Characters make up the role-playing experience. Within Quest Portal you can create unlimited characters to play, to use as NPCs or game master characters, as monsters or villains, and more. Characters can be created with a specific system in mind, like Call of Cthulhu, or open ended with our Universal Sheets. Choose or create an avatar for your character and customize its token and they are ready for the spotlight.

The Characters page is the home for all your characters. From where you can create new characters, view and edit existing characters. This overview shows you your player characters, GM characters, and claimable characters.

From the overview you can open your characters by clicking on their cards. From the three-dot menu you can take several quick actions such as: duplicate them, add/remove from campaigns, make them claimable, change their visibility to players, and delete them.

If you have a lot of characters you can sort them or filter.

When you create a character or open a character you open up the Character Creator. From the Creator you can edit the contents of the character sheet, create a avatar and customize the token of the character.

Characters are by default not added to a campaign, unless you created them from the campaign home.

You can add a character to a campaign from the character card. This opens a dialog where you can choose the campaign you want the character to belong to.

Characters in you campaigns where you are the game master will be hidden GM characters by default. You can change their visibility to show them to players from the character card.

You can also make characters claimable. That way your players can claim them and assume control of the characters, start editing them and more. Handy for those one shots!

If you are player in a campaign you will be able to either claim a character or bring in a character you have created.

Every character needs an avatar! You can easily upload your own image for your character avatar or choose from a big library of premade character avatars.

With Quest Portal Pro you can also generate avatars on the fly. Simply pick some preset styles and describe your character and Quest Portal generates an avatar that matches your input.

Once you've selected your character's avatar your can further customize how their token should appear if you drag them onto a scene. The Token tool allows you to choose the style and color of the token and see how it would appear on a scene.
