When we play a long campaign in our beloved 

, we often need a handy recap of what happened last time, or in a one shot, a sweet reminder of the fun that was had. Quest Portal offers 

 Stories to help with those recaps and reminders!

After each session, Quest Portal automatically creates a log of what happened in that session, who attended, and more. A special folder called Session Stories is created within 

Notes, and all Session Story logs will be saved there with the date of your game.

Each Session Story includes images of the 

that were active in the session. Additionally, you can see the active scenes, including fog of War and Tokens.

Below the images, you’ll find the actual log. It includes general campaign information, as well as information about when the session happened, how long it was, and who attended.

Then there’s the scene log, which contains information about what 

 were shown, how long you spent on them, and the key activities performed.

After the last person leaves a session, Quest Portal starts generating the story. It usually takes a few minutes to process everything. When the story is ready, you and your group will get a notification in the web app and an email with most of the story information.

You can also keep them on, but drag the Session Story folder to your private notes section. That way, you can keep getting them, but limit your players' access to them.

The notification email contains a link to the note, which can be shared wherever you wish to share them - friends, social media, and to the rest of the group to build hype for the next session. You can also save the images generated and share those too.

Only the GM has access to Scenes within the campaign. On the left hand side there is a Scene Deck. This deck is where your prepared scenes are stored.

You can add folders, add a scene and close the deck.

When a scene is hovered over, you will see more options. You can make scenes incredibly quickly, enabling you to have the confidence to run games with only 

If the button is blue, then the players can only see that scene. You can move players by pressing that button. All the players will see the same thing.

 If there is a variant of that scene, you can select between them here. A variant might be a night version, a nightmare version or a restored version of the same setting or scene.

 These symbol indicate what kind of assets are included in this scene and if there is a variation.

 Giving you the option to duplicate, edit of remove.

 allows you to choose our premade scenes that follow a particular theme or idea. You can scroll through selection, or you can use the search feature. They will have a name and use the same Music, Variant and video indicators as the Scene Deck.

When choosing from our premade, you can choose to Add to Scene deck immediately, or edit, which takes you to the Scene Editor.

In our premade scenes, you can also see the assets included in the scene: images, videos and music. You can also see which creators made each part - by clicking the links to the right, you will be taken to their creator page.

 stores all of your currently created scenes in a single place, allowing you to quickly edit or duplicate them.

 starts a new campaign scene and accesses the Scene Editor.

You can also create a new Scene by dragging an image or video into the play area from your local files, and choosing the Upload a new scene option.

If you upload multiple images at once, they will automatically create Variations for that scene.

The Scene Editor works the same for new scenes and editing premade or existing scenes.

You can change the name of the scene. You can add images or video with the + square. The menu gives you the options to choose from an 

 or upload your own. You can have multiple variants available for a scene.

Supported formats are .jpg, .png, .webp, .gif, .webm, .mp4 and .mov. The file size limit is 100 mb and 5 mb for gifs.

Similarly, you can add music in the same way. Click Select or upload music or sounds - where you can choose from our existing library. The first image will be used as the cover for that scene in the Scene Deck.

When adding images or music from our library, the creator will be linked under Art or Music. Click on this to get information about the creator, find more of their work and how you might be able to support them.

Once the scene is ready, click Save Scene, then Add to Scene Deck.

A session is where plans are made, stories told and die cast to determine the fates. Also where Players thwart the GM and Storyteller presents their twists.

When you create an account with Quest Portal, you will be able to view a checklist on the Home Screen. This checklist will help you learn the various aspects our platform can offer, including account management, GM specific tools,

Each step can be viewed by clicking on the step. The checklist will then expand revealing the following where applicable:

Once a step has been completed, it will automatically update when you complete an action. Steps can be completed out of order. When the checklist has been checked off, you should have a good overview of how to use Quest Portal. After all steps have been completed, you will see confetti and the Checklist will disappear from the Home Page after a small amount of time.

We currently offer 2 Checklists as tutorials: 

 starter checklists. You will see only 1 of these, determined by your selection of either GM or Both, or Player during the account creation phase.

Although the player version of the checklist is similar, it is primarily focused towards character creation.

Checklist

Campaigns in Quest Portal are how you organize your games. One-shots, few-shots, and multi-year games; they're all Campaigns in Quest Portal. When you have created a campaign you can invite your players, organize your game, write notes, add 

To create a campaign, first navigate to the plus symbol at the bottom left of the app or the Create A Campaign button on the homepage, which will add a new Untitled Campaign to your campaign list.

You will then have access to Campaign Owner options and be assumed to be the GM.

Quest Portal has a few premade Campaigns you can use to test the system or to have a night of fun with friends. 

Currently, these claimable campaigns are 

From the Home screen, you can select the Claim free scenario option and be shown a dialog to select which campaign to create.

From the Campaign Lobby, you can start a 

, but before you start, consider update-ing the name of the campaign and description, adding a campaign profile picture and cover photo, change settings, invite players, and more. We'll cover each option below.

Not all games are made the same, and in the 

, yours is just as unique as your group. You can change the name of your campaign by clicking on the name. Likewise, you can change the description by clicking into the description field and start typing.

You can upload a profile photo for your campaign by clicking on the profile photo. The profile photo is the same as in the left sidebar and in more places.

You can add further touches to your campaign screen by uploading a cover photo. You can see the option to change the cover by hovering over the image. There you will also find an option to reposition the cover.

To access the Campaign Settings, you can either click the drop down menu under the logo in the top right, clicking "Custom system" button under the campaign name, or the ellipsis towards the centre and selecting Campaign Settings. From there you can take actions such as inviting players, deleting your campaign, and duplicating your campaign. 

You will also see an option to open the campaign settings.

In the campaign settings dialog, you will see an option to change the game system. When you choose a new game system it will impact what game system the 

Additionally, you will also be able to choose the Character Sheet Template that future character sheets will be created with.

, from the Campaign Lobby you will see a few buttons to 

nvite players. When you click that button you will see a dialog from where you can invite players by username or by copying an invite link.

If your users are already in Quest Portal then you will see their names in the username search. They will get a notification in the app that they have been invited and can accept or reject the invite.

We recommend sending an invite link, especially when your players aren't already members of Quest Portal. When a new user creates an account via an invite link they are automatically added to your campaign after they sign up. Existing users can use the invite link as well and will be added to your campaign after they click the link.

If you find yourself in a circumstance where you want to create a copy of your campaign - you would run the same game for multiple groups or you set up a module you want to share - then you can do this by going into the ellipsis on the session landing page. Click the Duplicate Campaign.

A few moments later a duplicate will appear with all your existing notes, NPCs and scenes. This duplicate is independent of the original, so you can customize for your new group.

From the Campaign Lobby you can do a few things. We cover these options in other how-tos.

Library Link is a Quest Portal Pro Subscription feature

This enables the AI Assistant to access your Library, and cite the sources it used to create its answer.

Library Link connects your AI Assistant with the Library books that are associated with the 

 that your campaign is set to. This adds the relevant books to the Assistant's knowledge base, which it will use to craft a relevant answer to your questions - no D&D lore when you're asking in a Mutant: Year Zero game!

you will often see citations at the end of a response. These are links to the sources the Assistant used to create its answers. If you click on the citation, then it will open the 

 you can set your campaign to a specific game system. This directs the AI Assistant to use those sources as the basis for coming up with answers.

When you ask a question it will search through the available sources and create its answers from any matching records that are likely to give an accurate answer.

To access the Campaign Settings, you can either click the drop down menu under the logo in the top right, clicking "Custom system" button under the campaign name, or the ellipsis towards the center and selecting Campaign Settings. From here, you can search for a

This exciting piece of new technology allows our 

 users to create a character sheet in moments. Take the hassle out of copying and pasting multiple NPCs for your campaign, bring your pen and paper character online, convert your fillable PDF into a Quest Portal Character Sheet and turn photos of your friends into Monster NPC Stat Blocks to see their 

The top field is for text prompts. This could be a description of the character, a saying, or an instruction such as "Gnome, Thief, Level 5". You can leave this field blank or use in conjunction with another prompt.

The middle field is for uploading a file. You can add your character sheets, notes, exports from other platforms - whatever you want - to use as prompts for the generator. These can even be photos of your pen and paper character sheets, or photos of objects or people.

We currently support "pdf", "jpeg", "jpg" or "png" files types, with a file size maximum of 50mb. A PDF with multiple pages will be converted into multiple files, 1 per page. You can leave this field blank or use in conjunction with another prompt.

 If a PDF has 5 or more pages, only the first 4 of them will be used by the Generator as a prompt.

 Choose the Character sheet you would like the Generate Character feature to use when creating a character.

You can leave this field blank or use in conjunction with another prompt.

 We advise choose a Character Sheet Template for system you are playing to get the best results.

Whilst Generate Character is extremely exciting, especially when it saves time having to manually input over 100 NPCs for a module, it can be prone to errors - we recommend checking for accuracy.

The Generate Character feature takes the information from given a prompt, or series of prompts, and generates a character based on that information. It will extrapolate information from text, images, and from the 

, and create a character sheet based on that.

Will Generate Character import my existing character sheet?

- it generates a character based on the prompts and parameters given. However, depending on the clarity of information (text, images, character sheet template), it might be able to generate a character sheet that closely matches your existing 

As with any new technology, it is always best to check the generations made for accuracy, and to give us feedback so we can constantly improve the technology.

The simpler that character sheet, the better the results will be, but there are ways to improve your creations:

Use clear images: not blurry, not filled with clutter, good lightning, no glare.

Generate Character

Templates are ready-made, easy-to-use, no-code character sheets. You can choose from a wide selection of 

 or create your own. Templates are easily shared, and any template you can access can be duplicated and adapted.

You will find all templates in the Templates tab of the Character page in Quest Portal.

The Templates tab shows all available templates. The Template cards show the name and author of the template, the game system, and the template tagline. 

Did you know that the avatar you choose for your template will become the artwork of the template card?

In the bottom right, the ellipsis (...) button gives you a drop-down menu for Duplicate, Create Character, or Share Template. (See below for descriptions.)

Clicking the Template takes you to a preview of the Character Sheet Template.

You can also search or sort the Templates you can access and create a new template from the Templates tab.

Templates are filtered by view. “All”, “Your templates”, “Featured” and “Shared with you” only appear when you have a Character Sheet Template that you have created, or when someone has shared a link with you. If someone has shared a Template with you, create a duplicate of that template in case the original own changes or deletes their versions.

On the Template Preview Page you will see the main template 

 at the center and the actual character sheet on the right. 

You can only edit templates that you have created or duplicated.

Below the Main Avatar, you are presented with a couple of options:

 - Duplicate will open your own copy of the template, which you can customize further. This Template is also added to Your Templates for future use and editing.

 using the Template as a basis will be made, without making a new template. This character is added your Character vault.

 - The link will be copied to your clipboard, and when shared, will allow other Quest Portal users to access the Template. When the link it clicked or put into the address bar of a browser, it will open the Template.

: If someone clicking the link isn’t logged in or doesn’t have an account, they can still look through the character sheet, but they will not be able to use, edit or duplicate unless they log in.

These options are also available through the ellipsis (...) in the top right hand corner as well.

Creating and editing Character sheet templates

 and automatically name it the same with the addition of “copy”. It will contain all the same information and sheet as the original template.

The "Create New Template" button will give you a completely blank Universal 

Both Create New and Duplicate will give access to the same interface, features, and editing options. 

Everything is saved/synced as you make changes, so if you click away, your progress is not lost. They will also be automatically added to Your Templates.

You are able to do the following in a Template that you are the author of:

Set avatar (doubles as cover image for the Template). You can upload an image, choose on from our prepared Avatars or if you are a 

Change the name of the template in the place where you would normally name a character. Our Featured Templates use the name of the system, but this is entirely up to the creator.

Create a Tagline. This is intended for further information such as character sheet, NPC stat block, but it is entirely up to you.

Change the system the sheet is intended for. If for a system not in our list, use 

Add Tabs, Widgets, Headers, Tables, Roll Buttons, Checklists… the same as the Universal Character Sheet, to customize the Template as required. As it's based on our powerful 

 system, it should feel incredibly familiar to create with.

From this Edit Mode, you are able to Share the Template with other users, as well as being able to 

Create a Template from an existing Character

Character Sheets when viewed from the Character vault have a “Create A Template” option below the main avatar. It is also available from the ellipsis menu in the top right (...)

This creates a template from the Character Sheet, and will take you to the Edit Mode for your new Character Sheet.

In Campaign, navigate to the Campaign Settings. There is an option to set a Character Sheet Template. Clicking this gives you a menu where you can find Templates you are an author of (or are included in 

) that correspond with the game system you choose.

 has been selected, any new character sheets made from within this campaign will use the template chosen to create editable character sheets - for both players and the GM.

Character Sheet Templates create a template for multiple character sheets to be created from, enabling the community to create for systems they're playing.

The Quest Portal Assistant is an intelligent 

 that can help you quickly draft ideas, encounters, backstories and place descriptions. Additionally, the AI Assistant can answer questions about the rules of a supported Game System.

 is configured to use a specific roleplaying system, the campaign Assistant will use the 

 available from that system to answer with the knowledge about that particular TTRPG, giving results about rules from the system you're playing, and not a generic answer.

When out of a Campaign, the AI Assistant can be accessed through the navigation ribbon on the left and selecting the stars. From here you can easily switch between all threads created on the web app, or ask our Quest Portal Global assistant about generic TTRPG topics, or get help on how to use 

In session, the Assistant can be accessed through the navigation ribbon on the right. This Assistant will pull data about the system that the session campaign you are in has been set to.

 has access to the sources in your Library. These are SRDs and other books containing the rules for game systems. When you ask a about a rule the Assistant will perform a search within the sources, retrieve the top results, and construct an answer to the question based on those results.

Example: What is the importance of Runes in this Game?

In addition to asking about rules, the AI Assistant can answer other questions about a system such a the 

. These answers will be pulled from the library sources it has access to. This pairs exceptionally well with 

The AI Assistant is very capable in creative tasks. If you ask them to create an NPC they can give a thoughtful answer that takes into account the game system you are playing and the campaign description.

Example: Give me the stat block and background for a guard who is 10 days away from retirement.

Get assistance with rules or help with creating characters, locations, descriptions and more. The AI Assistant is there to help game masters and players.

AI Assistant

In the Library you will find all the books you have access to. These can be free sources, such as the D&D 5e SRD, or sources that come with a paid subscription like 

The Library is available on desktop and mobile and features a powerful search function that helps you find answers quickly.

Your Library is organized by game systems and 

. You can then click on a game system or publisher in order to see the available sources.

Any library entry, be they from a big publisher or an 

,  you see at least one free book or source for you to read. When viewing a publisher or system Library, you will see all the sources listed in a grid:

Books that are behind a paywall are grayed out and have the crown icon on them. Other sources that are free to use or you have unlocked appear normal.

When you have selected the book you want to read you can navigate through the book using the sidebar on the left. In the sidebar, the contents of the book are organized into folders and pages.

Selecting a page will open that page in the viewer and selecting a folder will expand that folder.

In many of the books in the Library there are references to other pages in the books or specific entries. These can be used to quickly navigate to those pages and back.

Links have the page icon with the arrow and are underlined. Clicking on a link will open that page. This functions a lot like the @ mentions found in 

Once you have opened a page you can always click the back arrow next to the name of the page you are viewing in the page header to go back to your previous page.

The Library search is very powerful and can surface content across game systems and sources. It users semantic search, meaning it will be able to find results with similar meaning in case you don't use the exact word or phrase that appears in the result.

When you search the matching results are shown as cards. In each card you will see the search phrase highlighted if there's an exact match.

The cards also show you where the result can be found in the hierarchy of the library. In the above example it would be the 

 game system, Beastiary 3 book, in the Chapter Monsters, under the Section H within the Hag entry.

Where you initiate the search matters. If you are viewing a specific page and you search you are searching through the specific source you have open. If you are viewing a game system and search you will search within the sources of that game system. Likewise, if you are at the top level of the Library and search then you are searching across all your game systems and sources.

You can change the level you are searching on by using the filter pills at the top of the search results. The blue pill shows the current level and clicking on the others will move to that level. This is helpful if you initiate the search at the source level, but actually want to search all sources within the game system.

There are a few other fun things you can do in your Library. First of all, you can favorite pages for quick access later.
