Cairn is an adventure game about exploring a dark and mysterious Wood filled with strange folk, hidden treasure, and unspeakable monstrosities. Character generation is quick and random, classless, and relies on fictional advancement rather than through XP or level mechanics. Whilst Wardens control the narrative and world, the players explore a dangerous Wood. With the most minor of interaction comes the possibility of things turning deadly, so deadly that players need their wits in order to find non-violent ways to solve their problems. Cairn is a fantastic system, both 1e and 2e which are compatible with one another, that really puts the emphasis on character growth over mechanical advancement. This story driven system really digs down into characters and stories, where the rules take a backseat to the narrative.
